I’ve had a suspect cockerel for a while, and today I noticed some bumps on “her” legs. There’s some points growing out of these bumps. Could it be spurs growing in? She’s 2 months old, much bigger than her two sisters, and has a more developed and redder comb. I’m wondering if this is just another reason to think she’s a rooster?

I've seen plenty of pullets with little bumps like that on the legs, so I don't think they mean anything.

At 2 months old, with a comb that red, you probably have a cockerel.

Any crowing yet? Crowing usually settles the matter :)

No crowing yet.... although I have heard a few strange crow-like noises from her/him

Do you know what a rooster looks like when he crows? (Youtube can help if you don't.)

I sort out what weird noises are crows and what are not by watching the bird--crowing cockerels just look different than chickens making other kinds of noises (at least, they do to me.)

If you've seen the bird crow, I am quite sure it's a cockerel.

If your area has a rule against roosters, they may not care what gender the bird really is--crowing might be enough to violate the rule.

If you want a different kind of opinion, you could send some feathers off for DNA sex testing.

I've used this place once--they were right on both birds. Other places exist.
Personally, I think it would be a waste of money because I'm sure your bird is male, but it's really up to you :idunno
