I have three eight week olds that I am sending off DNA samples for today. I have paid for express results which are delivered online within two days of being received, so I should know later this week!

Anyone fancy a guess for fun? I'll wait to see what you guys think before I give my suspicions and why 🤣

I've been running another thread, but as we all know it's pointless guessing this young. Excited/nervous/hate myself a bit... but I don't want to wait till they crow to find out since I can't keep roos 😢 and want to find the best homes possible...

Let me know what you think and I'll keep ya all posted!

I swear it’s such a mixed bag, anyone who I have asked there’s no majority for any of the chooks 😂

Personally, I’ve thought Patsy was a boy for weeks, but I’ve got a gut feel inside the last week or so that I am wrong for some reason. The gut feel doesn’t really stack up when you look at ‘her’ though!

I think Jacks is a boy as ‘he’s’ gone from smallest by 10g at hatch to almost the biggest of the three now… although narrowest comb and no chest bumping. So could be fully wrong.

Eddie is the tiniest by a long way. She has pretty girly behaviour all round, except she’s a big chest bump instigator!

So… yeah, kinda up in the air on all of them 😆

Just dropped off the samples on express post!!! Samples should be received tomorrow as it's only the next state, and then two days from there till online results... Will be good to know once and for all LOL

🤞🏼

Patsy is giving me pullet vibes.
Interesting! Everyone keeps saying roo… I’ve thought so too for a while, but the last week or so my gut is telling me pullet too.

The results SHOULD be in today as I paid for the 1-2 day express service and the samples arrived at the lab over 48 hours ago now. Eeeek.

Will update when I know!

Did you find out??! I'm in a similiar situation although I only have 4.. Totally understand about becoming attached! I can't bear the thought.. A breeder was telling me about anti-crow collars that stop roos developing loud crows??! And supposedly Silkie roos are fairly 'quiet'??! Could we get away with having quiet roos??! :) Is there such a thing?!!

I did!!!! The white and paint are boys, and the black baby is a girl. I’m really shocked about Eddie as his behaviour, looks and stance have been 1000% female except the chest bumping.

I’ve been terribly sad today and also trying to work out how I can keep roos 😂

I’ve heard the no crow collars are actually cruel as they literally restrict their airflow and choke them so they can’t crow 😭 I have however read about a lady who keeps her roo in the house in a blackout dog crate at night, and lets him out mid morning to be with the flock… she’s been doing it for a year and says it works great.

If you find any solutions I’d love to know!!

Hopefully you have better luck than me 😆 Have you sent any DNA off?

Unfortunately, the breeder is lying to you.
Silkies are just as loud as any other small rooster, even worse since they can be shrill.
No crow collars work by strangulation, often the birds suffocates or chokes to death with them and they barely work.
If the breeder reccomended them, that does not show well to the knowledge of the 'breeder'

That's too bad. I hope you find them good homed
Chest bumping isn't as gender specific as some what lead you to think.
