Can 8 week olds be put outside for a short period when it is in the lower 60's? I would like to open the door and clean the coop. They would be in the run with the first wind to hit them. They have been a 65 degree coop for a couple weeks now. John
By 8 weeks, my chicks have no supplemental heating and night temps are in the lower to mid 30's. They will be fine as long as they are acclimated to the weather.
My little ones are 6 weeks and are as happy as can be outside in 50 degrees for a few hours with tarp wind break. I watch them closely, though, and if they huddle in the shelter box for very long I bring them in.
