What in the world do you do with all of those chicks?

This are the offspring of a meat project I did with my DCxWPR and BOxMadisons. I'm gonna pick the best 30 in 12 wks to breed them again. Giving the rest to my dad.
Good hatch rate, congrats!

Wow, 102 December chicks?!

Gonna clean my bator after the 8th and let her rest either for spring or summer hatchalomgs.....hope I can stand the temptation of hatching until then, having Valentine hatchalong around the corner.....

I put chicks in the brooder. My husband looked at them and said, "It's amazing that just three weeks ago they would have been breakfast."

It's True!! I have a son that won't eat fertile eggs. Nope.

He always asks if I have a rooster out there, and even if I say ..it's just a cockerel..he won't eat the eggs. :/

It's gotten much worse in a short time. It looks very inflamed now. I will probably cull it very soon. Not really how I wanted to start the new year.

Hatching is a learning experience. Next time this happens, you will know more about what to do to help.

I do not think this one has a chance. You may need to cull.

I think I should have tried that when I first saw the intestines starting to come out. Now they are bigger and red. I'm sure the damage is done. Plus I don't want it to suffer. Next time I should try to tie it off first then cut it from the legs and hope for the best. It's always sad but this was blue cream color and I'm really trying to get more of this color. I also lost 2 more eggs to bad positioning in the egg. Head between the feet. Hoping at least another 2-3 hatch.

That was very interesting to see..the first photo you posted. I've never had a chick get tangled like that before. I've heard of it, but haven't seen it. Sorry you are having some bad luck here. Good luck on those others!

Hahaha! One my customers for hatching eggs, asked if I would sell hatching eggs... he confirmed his interest last week... now he us incommunicado!... Oh well, they will grow, and hopefully I will sell them on Craigslist before I take them to the auction... I love the little buggers!

I hear ya on the lovin!

Well, congratulations to all who have chicks so far.

It's Monday morning here in Australia and I still have 11 chicks and one egg pipped fa on the side. I wet my finger and put it on the pip and there's movement. I couldn't resist removing the TINIEST bit of shell and now need to be disciplined enough to leave well enough alone. It's a good thing I'm going into work this morning even though it's a public holiday.

30 hatched out of 33 to lockdown 12/31.

Total hatched for December 102 chicks, still got last batch for the 8th another 39 eggs.

Wow! My six 3 week old barnyard mix chicks are going to their new home today to make room for the dozen (hopefully) newly hatched Light Sussex. I just keep reminding myself that half of these new chicks will be roosters as the rule in my backyard is, "If you crow, you go." Just one of the joys of living in suburbia.

Oh! That doesn't look good to me. So sorry for you. :(
