WOW this is an active thread! 45 new posts since around midnight my time?

Morning, folks!

OT question: I keep my birds indoors as I live in the city and have horribly nosy neighbors. My city DOES allow chickens, but I don't want to tempt fate with my neighbors. Is there a breed or breeds I could realistically keep a few indoor hens from for eggs? I have Coturnix quail indoors, to give an idea of how much I can put up with in my house.

SERIOUSLY getting addicted to hatching now.... lol

LF or bantam?

Hmmm, I have kept parrots with dust dander and have kept cats, is chicken dust that much worse? I could get a couple of air filters if that would make a noticeable difference?
A filter helps a bunch!

Bantam would be fine. I'm not set on full size birds at all. Are there breeds of Bantam or is Bantam itself a breed? Sorry, I'm not a chicken keeper so know next to nothing about them.
What breeds do you have now?

Bantam is a general term for tiny birds, there are many breeds. My personal fave is the old english game bantam, which have the spunkiest personalities ever! They're terribly broody, but if you can keep them un-broody they're decent summer layers.

Sultans (see my avatar) and Barred rock bantams are great as well.

Ooh! This is exciting! I'll look into Bantams then. Can these be eaten also? Like if I get a dozen eggs to hatch or something and get a bunch of males can I rehome to the freezer or will I be better off finding them actual homes?

What I want is EE bantams, which would be great for you if you wanted some coloured eggs and snazzy feathering...

Course they're edible. They're single serve though... :p
