Depending on the weather I may set some eggs

Love my turners too, but I incubate a lot of Calls and they do best hand turned, lol...

Why is that?

Already have some cooking, but I will be adding some more in a few days. Maybe my new Marans hens will lay some eggs before the 11th so I will have some on time for NYE. The marans certainly had a rooster at their old home (bought them today).
Btw-what egg color do you get if you cross an Isbar with a Marans?

Why is that?

Ducks just do better laying down, but Calls are more difficult... they do not develop properly on end and they have issues hatching a lot of times due to their short bills and short necks...

I never knew that about the calls @RavynFallen Thats actually pretty interesting.

I personally think chicken eggs do better lying down, too. Not that they necessarily need to be laid down to have a successful hatch, i just find that its easier....I've had more success with eggs laying down..rather than upright, i dont incubate upright. I guess its because the natural way is laying down, for the eggs.

Count me in! Already have some Muscovy eggs cooking, and I think I might have some fertile peafowl eggs. Will also do a few banty eggs.
