8th-annual-byc-new-years-day-2017-hatch-a-long

Woo hoo! This'll be my first time participating in a "hatch-a-thon" and am SO excited! I've got a whole bator full of Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps and F1/F2 Oliver Eggers set to go into the hatcher on the 9th, so the date couldn't have worked out better if I'd planned for it! Been incubating and hatching eggs for a long time now, so if anyone needs assistance, I'm more than happy to help as well. What're all y'all planning on setting? I've finally got Golden Campines, SS Appenzellers and my beloved Frizzle Olive Eggers laying, so will be setting them.

You are getting a welcome anyway...come on in and visit!

Already have some cooking, but I will be adding some more in a few days. Maybe my new Marans hens will lay some eggs before the 11th so I will have some on time for NYE. The marans certainly had a rooster at their old home (bought them today).
Btw-what egg color do you get if you cross an Isbar with a Marans?

I am so excited to be able to take part in this! How exciting. Now, keeping fingers crossed that I have better results than my first attempt- 2 out of 8.

Going to re-plug in my bator and really figure out the temps etc.- of my 8 eggs, the two that hatched, hatched early. First one on day 19 and the second the night between 19 and 20.

If you have any suggestions or advice, I am all ears!

Is it sad that I have the whole cabinet incubator running right now with 3 eggs in it? I just don't feel like setting up the little hova bator. I'm so lazy lol
you need more eggs!!

Or hand turn, lol...

lol, thanks

Exactly right... all eggs really do better incubating on their sides... just some that are drastically different...

Call ducks are notoriously difficult to hatch though... I've ran 2 dozen eggs in a regular upright turner, was lucky to get 4 to 6 hatched and thriving... laying them down, hand turning them, and a few days misting them, I got 24 out of 26 to hatch and thrive... they are a difficult breed to hatch, but extremely rewarding...
