I know I was supposed to wait until tomorrow to remove the automatic turner, but I did it today because I will be busy tomorrow. I don't think that removing it 1 day early is going to matter any. Everything in there is still looking good so far. None of the 6 eggs in there are stinking or anything, so I'm hoping that all 6 of my new Splash and Blue Australorps will be popping out to see the New Year 2017 in!

Everything in there is still looking good so far. None of the 6 eggs in there are stinking or anything, so I'm hoping that all 6 of my new Splash and Blue Australorps will be popping out to see the New Year 2017 in!

I'm honestly considering doing the same thing! I'm so worried about what to do if one tries to hatch early. I don't want to kill it in the time it takes me to get everyone off the turner. Although I CAN just turn it off, but I'd rather it be out so I have a better shot of siphoning water into the trays while on lockdown.

I was also in the October hatch-a-long, and that time I had 2 sets of eggs due for hatching a week apart. Set 1 had 6 eggs, and there were 7 eggs in set 2. When it was time for the turner to come out for my 1st set, I put each set in a small paper towel lined cardboard box that would fit inside of the incubator. I did open the incubator to quickly turn by hand the ones from the 2nd group. The total eggs of both sets was 13, and only 1 egg (from set 2) didn't make it to hatch and looked like it had shrink wrapped inside of the egg. So, my hatch rate in October was 12 out of 13.

I'm going back and forth with myself in my head right now. I won't start lockdown with raising the humidity if I remove the turner now, I'm just trying to make sure I'm not being unnecessarily impatient. Ugh. #FirstTimeHatchingProblems lol

The turner just rolled and I didn't hear anything. Of course, now I'm wondering what the heck I'm gonna do if any of them do internally pip before I take the turner out. Today is day 16. I'm planning to remove the turner tomorrow night then start pushing the humidity up on Thursday. Do they only run the risk of shrink wrapping if they've externally pipped? I DO have one egg that I think will be an early bird, but today just feels a smidge too early to start LOL. What do I know though? I R Not A Chick

And yes, you only have to worry about shrink wrapping if the chicks have externally pipped, providing that your humidity has been good all along and your air cells are on track.

That's why I put mine in those little paper towel lined boxes as I was taking them out. Work quickly so that they will be back in there as soon as possible with the lid back on. You can set the turner on something that won't burn, because that little motor there in it does get a bit hot. Don't forget to put your thermometer back in there.

I think that the reason why that one egg looked a bit shrink wrapped back in October, was because the egg might have still been a little on the smaller size from the pullet who hadn't been laying as long as the other ones. At that hatch, I had been testing to see if my cockerel was fertilizing the eggs yet.

That's good to know, thank you! Husband is encouraging me to just wait until tomorrow to remove the turner lol. Maybe I'll just remove it in the morning if I can't stand it.

I think that might depend on your setup? Mine doesn't really have room for anything else to be placed in it. It's just tall enough for the fan to be out of the way of hatching chicks. (This was taken earlier in the hatch). I think I'll just need to work quickly, but carefully.
