Hi

I am Joyce and I have 10 adolescent chickens, 2 each of Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Golden Comet, Black Star (aka Black Sex Link). It has recently become apparent that Queen Rhoda (Rhode Island Red) was needing a new name. First I noticed the hefty legs and fast growing comb. Then the wattles and earlobes. Then the glossy dark feathers at the base of the neck, tinged with green. I really didn't want to believe it, but when the gorgeous green drooping feathers appeared on the tail, I couldn't deny it any longer and then the next morning came an impressive COCKADOODLEDOO! Now King Phillip (called Phil for short) is gorgeous and quite tame so far. But I really wasn't intending to have a rooster, having heard stories of the problems with aggression and over mating.

In any case, I learn more every day and thought I'd stop by to talk chickens!

BAWK!
Joyce
