miss Flock Master you are going to be making allot of breeding pens! LOL even if you don't know it yet. welsummers ! after that first dark egg you know your done ! You already love orphs and buff ones are awsome too
Good luck hatching all these chicks and then building giant breeding pens for all of them
Ok, I guess on the marans I will just have to be patient, oh brother, like that is going to happen. I'm always checking my temps and humidity several times a day now. I'm going to candle the bantams on Wednesday. I don't have a great feeling on those. My cochin bantam is very tiny and the roo that attempts to mate her is pretty big. He is an EE X. I'm not sure he is hitting the mark if at all, maybe just squishing that little hen. LOL Time will tell, but I should be able to see veins on her eggs pretty easy as they are an off-white color. Why is it when you are hatching eggs, it takes SOOOOOO long and when other people do it they have babies hatching before you know it????

Because it's a universal truth that time flies when it isn't your hatch, LOL. I removed one more of the extra Buff Orps Julie included with her RIRs she sent. It was one that was very porous and at 11 days, was obviously not developed, so I'm down to 69 eggs today. I recandled that odd one that seemed to be forming a blood ring, also one of the extra Buff Orps. It has a blob near the aircell and a some veining at the middle, but seems like nothing in between, so I believe the peep has expired and a ring is forming. I'll give it another couple of days, recandle and if nothing has changed or its worse, it's coming out.
Yep, it is alot! If even half of them hatch, they'll only be in the bsmt brooder for two weeks, tops, then they'll need more room! Good thing it'll be May and the outside nursery coop will be ready for them.
I candled eggs last night. None of my bantam cochin eggs were fertile. I candled the marans eggs but couldn't see much. A few I did see veins though, I think.
There were three that I think had blood rings and maybe one clear, but in those dark eggs it is too hard to tell, so I left all 17 eggs in there. I think my EE egg is growing, but it is hard to see too. The off white egg appeared to have something in there, but it didn't look right, maybe started and expired, but no definite ring so I left it too. If I can get 8 or 9 marans out of this, I will be super, super happy!
Sounds promising! I removed another Buff Orp from the extras Julie sent and one of the Barred Rocks of my own eggs that had expired. I tried candling the Buff Orps Jody sent and I know 10 of the 16 are good, at least, but I need to wait and recandle in a couple of days. A few are porous and those are so hard to see into in the beginning due to the splotchy nature of the shells, but even if the 10 are the only ones good, that's not bad for the trip they took.
When is your hatch day? Since I set mine on the 6th in the morning, day 21 would be the 27th, right? Man, this is taking too long. I can't stand it. Have you gotten any blue marans from Sara yet? I thought I remembered she was hatching you some.
I think your 21st would be the 26th if you set them early on the 6th. Mine are due on April 24 and Jody's and one of my Orps are due May 1. No, I held off on the Blue Marans from Sara. She wasn't able to get them to me by the beginning of the hatch, and as you can see, I had lots going on anyway, so I told her to hang on for awhile.
