9 eggs 8 hens?

I read that pearl white leghorns can lay more than 1 egg a day at their prime. maybe one of them popped out an extra. if your leghorns are PWs

Chickens really can scare you sometimes! I believe he's a roo.
The hens probably had a glitch in their egg-making systems and so produced two eggs early. Oh and sometimes if you see the chickens squatting, they're not really squatting; it's actually a mating position.

I also heard that it is possible for hens to turn into roos but not possible for roos to turn into hens.

Happy laying!

Our Buff Orpintons probably aren't that normal, but we've had a about two occassions where we know a hen laid two eggs the same day. We have 11 hens and when we get 12 eggs one day we start to wonder

One time we had an extra egg it was very odd - no hard shell on it, just a membrane. I had read about that happening but it's odd to see in person, it was like the egg shell was made from rubber

After that we fed our chickens some spinnach every week and some oyster shell bits and now their egg shells are very strong.

But these hens are amazing layers - they started early (4-5 months old) and started laying in the winter. We dont have extra lights on them (unless you count infra-red lamp for keeping their coup from freezing) so we're not sure why they're laying like mad but they seem really happy! Also we noticed they were eatting feathers off the ground.. but once we gave them spinnach (raw spinnach leaves) they immediately stopped doing that. And man.. they LOVE spinnach, they'll run through the snow to get some
