I have a 9 month old polish pullet and she is still not laying.. My other araucanas started laying at 7 months, so 9 months seems late to me.. We got her in July, when she was about a week old, along with a few others chicks. She is the only one not laying, and I know for sure it is a pullet. The other chickens usually bully her so I seperated her along with her "best friend", a silkie rooster. They are together in a small hen house, with plenty of space, and I let them out in the run together also. Do you have any ideas why she isn't laying? She is sort of a funky chicken, and in cold weather has to stay inside because once when time when it snowed she lost all her toes on one foot do to frostbite. But now that the weather is nice she is back outside with the rooster. Why isn't she laying yet?

I have had this happen before. Sometimes they won't start till a year! Don't worry totally normal just wait it out and hope for the best.

Ok,I sure hope she starts laying soon!

If she doesn't lay soon she may never lay. Some chickens never lay eggs in there life. It is somewhat rare so I wouldn't jump to conclusions....yet.

I have a two-and-a-half-year-old Silkie who has never laid an egg.

She came from MPC and I contacted them to ask if they had any idea why she hadn't laid. They told me that only one ovary operates in hens and that if something is wrong with that ovary the hen will not lay.

Yes, this is true. It is rare but definitely possible.

Well, luckily she starting laying an egg a day! :D It's ironic how she finally decided to lay an egg on Easter!
