A week ago this past Tuesday morning jack-hammers started up at the cond complex across the road. They continued all day and through the week.

Saturday came, I got up early to let the girls out, surfed the net and then around 8:30 I made coffee and took it upstairs to drink in bed with Feller. There we were happily enjoying our morning cup of coffee and shortly before 9:00 we hear jack-hammers. I couldn't believe it. They went on ALL day. By early afternoon, I had taken myself off to the library because I really needed some quiet.

I will give them credit, they did at least manage to not show up on Sunday.

Monday morning rolls around and there they are again. Did I mention, I work at home?

I got on the phone to my across the street neighbour to get some idea of how much longer this was to go on. She said that she was certain they would be done by Wednesday. Well Wednesday came and went. Today is Thursday and they haven't blinking well stopped. So far, not even a lunch break.

I don't do well with constant noise. I am a musician and this is exceptionally painful. I can't just go out for the whole day because I look after 2 kids under the age of 2, so I need to be home for naps and whatnot. This constant noise is making my chest constrict.

Okay, I just went out and told them I need them to take a break. Boss guy is a jerk. Anyway, I get 20 minutes of quiet. I'm going to go to my happy place now.

Thanks for letting me spout. Better this than me going out to show my skills at calf castration with nothing but a pocket knife.

We live in a Military Training Area and we get military fighters flying at all times of the day and night. So, I kind of know the feeling. It is annoying to be woke up at 2 am to the sound of jets training overhead. I know it is for the good of our country, but geez... 2 am?

what are they doing?? who is it? you're neighbors then? not the county with road crew?

geez they must really have a big job.

that would be awful to live with...especially with kids that need nap time...

Kids will sleep through anything.......and people need to work, especially in this day and age. I would be greatful they waited until 9am on Saturday....they could have started at 7am!

wonder what they are doing?

my neighbors knocked down some cement steps and replaced it with a deck...but that was only a few days. nice deck too.

As long as they don't start up before 7, you'll have to deal

But, know that you can but this in your tin of "brownie points" for when your family needs to do something obnoxious.

There is some problem with the cement walkways, stairs etc.

I know they need to do their job. I don't have a problem with that. I just really needed them to stop and give my ears a bit of a break. This is the first time I have complained to them and all I asked was that they take a little lunch break - not stop work all together. Besides, for guys using big jack-hammers, I can't imagine going without a lunch break would go over very well with worker's compensation if someone got injured.

Oh, and they Saturday work - our noise bylaw says they shouldn't have started before 10am.

The kids are sleeping through it just fine - the room where they sleep is on the other side of the house from the construction. The big relief is that we aren't having super hot weather that would require all the doors and windows open.

I know I am being a whiner and it must suck more to be the guy working the jack-hammer than me in my house hearing it, but I'm not getting paid for it.

I thought about it, but I have to be "on" when I am looking after children.

I'm done complaining. They gave me close to an hour of peace when they only offered up 20 minutes. Boss guy isn't around, so maybe that's why they took a longer break.

I think a trip to the library may be in order once nap time is over.
