Blooie, I needed a really good giggle and "Dumb Daphne the Flock Complainer" sent me over the laughing edge

Glad Daph could give you a little chuckle. She's a puzzlement, that one is. No egg from her since last year, and I have no idea why she's still out there freeloading. She thinks she's a rooster - no crowing but she is the flock supervisor and complainer. Daphne hates everything! Always vigilant, I swear she knows the difference between the garbage man pulling up and someone pulling up to visit. Checks out and then ignores the garbage truck, keeps her eye on the visitor from the time they pull up, get out of the car and walk up to the house to the time they leave. <sigh>
Ida, a red sex link, was our first egg layer. Dumb Daphne used to pace the helper board in front of the upper nests. She cackled and yelled at Ida through the entire process. As soon as Ida was done, Daphne stopped pacing and positioned herself squarely in front the nest opening, then gave Ida the stink eye. Ida would stick her head out, Daphne would peck her hard on top of the head scolding her the whole time, and Ida would come the rest of the way out, duck her head, say, "Yes ma'am. Thank you Ma'am." and scurry out of the coop as fast as she could. Then Daphne would break into the egg song. We laughed proudly the first time Ida nailed her back. The look on Daphne's face was priceless!
Stoopid chicken!
