9 week old quail not yet laying

Either the environment or something is lacking nutritionally. Do they have a relatively quiet place to lay? What are you feeding and do you supplement for calcium? By the way, the male has nothing to do with it. Female birds lay eggs with or without a male present.

Are they Jumbos? They take a little longer to mature. At 9 weeks I probally wouldn't worry, by 10-11 weeks I'd start looking at things a little closer. Light, food, water, calcium, stress, and tempature are the major factors.

Yes I know:) I was just noting that I am sure they are female as I also have a male and they are different.

We are giving them chicken layer pellets and meal worms to supplement protein. I ordered game bird feed today online though. I haven't been able to get it locally. Maybe this is the problem .
They get light and warmth, are outside all day then out inside at sunset.

We have to get ours at a local farm/feed store. Even though Tractor Supply near us carries it, it is too pricey there. We can get a 50 pound bag at the feed store for 1/10th the price of TSC. I had my quail on the layer pellets all winter and then switched them over to the game bird feeder. They started laying within 10 days of switching over but that could just be coincidental since it was the time for them to start laying anyway.

I apologize if it sounded like I was being pedantic about the male/female and eggs thing. It is a question that has come up with new quail owners before. No offense intended.

I don't know why yours hasn't started laying, but mine took 4 months to start laying! And now they lay like champs!

Increased protein.... Finally got an egg today!!!!
I had finally just started to pray for an egg...
