Dear BYC members,
Its the beginning of day 23, all chicks hatched healthy and I thought this one was DIS. No chirping, no movement for days, no pip. I candled it, no movement as well.
I made a safety hole to check its safe to dispose, and saw the chick making very shallow breathing noises. Coconut oil on the (very very white) membrane showed me this pic- I have no idea what I´m looking at tbh.
Is that white thing on top the beak?
Do I clear a tiny bit of membrane from the nostrils to get it breathing?
With the coconut oil the membrane seems to have veining left- should I let it take more time?
Help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks so much for your reply- I had the feeling the breathing is very very shallow, it took me some time staring at it to even realize its not dead.
And there seems to be so much liquid in the egg- normal?

So- more info: I tried to feel along the membrane to establish where the beak is. And I´m not sure, the white stuff on top felt a little different.
I poked the membrane next to the right white stuff on top with sterilized scissors. It started to bleed a very small amount and stopped to applied pressure with a q-tip.

That was the maximum I felt comfortable with, and I think it needs more time. I´m just afraid to see a dead chick next time I check... :-(

How is the chick doing?
It looks like the yolk isn't fully absorbed yet...could just be the way I'm reading the picture though. But if the yolk is still there, I'd absolutely leave it alone.
Good luck and hopefully the little one makes it.
