Hello,
I have a 3 year old RIR and her behind looks like this. I’ve cleaned it. It’s like hard caked on poo. I thought maybe vent gleet since it’s super stinky. I’ve been doing Vagisil once a day but it doesn’t seem to be helping. She’s a little crunchy in her stance but nothing super noticeable. Shes the only one so far that has this messy bum. The coop is clean.
What can I do?

Thank you!

What can I do?
These are photos before you cleaned her up?

If not, give her a good washing up and remove all the poop.

Are you applying the Vagisil topically or giving it orally?

When was she last dewormed?

A little crunchy in her stance? Not sure what that mean, if she's hunching up, when was the last egg? She may need some Extra Calcium for a few days if she's struggling with soft shells or expelling material. Give 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for 5days.

Yes before I cleaned her up for the second time.

I’ve been applying a pea size amount right into the entrance of her vent. Should I do orally also?

I’ve done 2 rounds of deworming. Once in September and once again beginning of January. I did Aquasol. In September I actually found round worms in her poop and brought her in for an Epsom soak due to her being kind of squatting. (See picture below).

Crunchy in stance like she’s maybe uncomfortable but no penguin stance to indicate severe egg binding. (Here’s a picture below compared to another in the flock that’s nice and perked up and not hunched) I’ve felt her abdomen and I don’t feel anything. I have 24 layers, most being brown layers, so honestly I don’t know when her last egg was. Im thinking I need to separate her huh?
They have free choice oyster shells at all times. But can I give her crushed tums?
She poops without hesitation however it’s runny and not solid.
I started some Nutri-drench yesterday. I’ll go out and check the vitamin levels.

Thank you for your input.

I wouldn't separate her out if she's still eating/drinking and interacting with the flock. Not getting picked on. She'll be much happier and less stressed with her flock and you can just pull her aside to treat as needed.

I think I'd deworm her again, using Safeguard Liquid Goat Dewormer 10%. Give her a dose at a rate of 0.23ml per pound of weight orally once daily for 5days in a row. This will treat most all worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworms.

Aquasol is used to treat Roundworms only, but with it being in the water, the chicken needs to consume enough of the medicated water for it to be effective. It's possible she didn't drink enough or...hard to say, but if you direct dose her with the Goat Dewormer, you'll be sure that she's been dewormed and can rule that out if the issue continues.

Yes, you can give her TUMS. Give 1 a day for the 5days. You can crush it up and add it to a little treat for her or break it up and give her the pieces directly if you wish. Another option is crush very finely, then mix the powdered TUMS in just a bit of coconut oil, roll up into small pieces, then place in the freezer to harden up. Then offer like little balls of "treats".
I've found that TUMS do not dissolve in water very well at all just so you know that, I've tried dissolving so I could syringe it directly, didn't work out LOL

Is her crop emptying well? The mucky bum could be Vent Gleet, usually Gleet is a white yeasty discharge, but some have reported it being mucky like that.
Sometimes if the yeast medication is given orally it can be more effective than just applying topically. Miconazole, Clotrimazole or Nystatin can be given orally, so I'd consider doing that.

Yes that’s why I haven’t separated her because she is still part of the flock. She gets treats (I do 5 grain scratch [which I limit so they still want to eat their feed] and mealworms. The only thing I’d separate at this point is to see if she’s laying or not and maybe to monitor her waste. But I’ll leave her for now.

Ok I’ll run to the feed store this morning for the dewormer. Is it ok to give it to her with the tums? Do you know if there’s a withdrawal period with it incase she is laying?

Lol yes trying to get crushed bits in a syringe is difficult and not enjoyable for anyone.

Thank you for your help. She’s one of my original flock so she holds special space in our hearts.
You seem very knowledgable. If you don’t mind me asking, do you have veterinary medicine background or just seasoned in chicken keeping?

Again, grateful for your input.

Oh and also, yes her crop seems to be normal. Empty in the morning and full at night.

Upon my research I’m finding that aquasol and the goat dewormer are both 10% fenbendazole. So I’m unsure if I need to buy something else or if I should just give her the dose of Aquasol directly?

Goodness I misspoke- I haven’t been giving vagisil- I’ve been doing Monistat aka miconazole. I’ll give that to her orally also
