Great story. Danes are hands down the best breed on the planet! I've had them all my life, and they will play mother to any animal or child you bring around, have been personally involved with either breeding, owning, or training probably 300 Danes and have yet to see one with a mean bone in their body, unless someone tries to harm someone in their family. Thanks again, great story.
Great danes are wonderful dogs....our 3 year old collie had never seen chicks/chickens before and a month ago when we brought our chicks home....she did the same thing! The moment we brought them in the door and SHE decided they were hers and "mother hen" kicked in! She keeps vigil by the brooder box and if they so much as peep off key we know about it! Animals are such amazing gifts....can't imagine my life without them!!! So blessed!
We had a Great Dane - Clifford - when I was growing up. They are huge and seem intimidating (ours was black with a ginormous bark), but they are mushies on the inside. Gosh, I loved that dog. I have an Australian Cattle Dog mix who I don't want to leave alone with my chickens. She's tolerant of the cats, but I think I'd be pushing it with the chicks. Although I did read somewhere that when the chicks come home to introduce them to the other pets in the house so that they think the chicks belong to them.
I'm afraid my dog and cats will think the chickens are lunch!
Very cute! I couldn't help but be distracted, though, by the fact that in those pictures not only does the owner have the dane on a leather couch, but the chicks as well. Dirt and hair is hard enough to clean up, I can't imagine what getting chick poop off leather would be like.
Danes are my very favorite breed; I lost my very best friend last September...and her littermate this past January. I've been heartbroken ever since. I miss my Macey so much!
