This so reminds me of a story. Once, many, many moons ago (I was 19) my mom was hospitalized and was in the ICU for a month. As a surprise for her homecoming my sisters and I decided to re-model her kitchen for her. A nice beige with red trim, it really came out great.
Once we finished and sat back to admire our work we realized that the only thing that wasn't perfect was the ugly yellow (the same yellow as your phone) rotary dial phone hanging on the kitchen wall. Back then folks rented their phones from Southern Bell. We called the phone company about replacing the phone with one in a more neutral color, but they told us they only replaced phones that were broken. So...we decided to break it.
We tried beating on that phone with our fists, with a kitchen mallet, with the receiver. We couldn't break that dang phone!

We finally took a hammer to it. Mom got her new phone.

Yeah, they are tough. Don't think any modern phones will still be working 50 years from now.

I also have the 1970's era 10 key, two toned yellow with orange keys. Complete with the itty bitty lightbulbs to form the numbers.

Imp- as long as you already have the cord for your trip, I'll send that along too.
