A Baby What!

Although my wife and I were tempted to keep him, we just don't have the time for a new lil one like this.

He would have kept both of us up tonight, all night for sure.

He sure was an ornery lil guy!

I know, I read alot about them. I'm waiting too. Though I am not sure when....

I have done a ton of research because I want one so badly. They are supposed to be carried 24/7 when they are babies and first with you. I can't do that right now.

I hear they're much like a newborn baby- care wise I mean. Tons and tons of attention...

Yea, retirement may be a better option.

Looks like I'll be waiting for a long time...

Aww even though they are not friendly with chickens, I still love them. I am so glad you were there to save him/her.

I once had a friend that had one as a pet. That thing was very sneaky and liked to turn the pot holders inside out every night. Got to be kinda funny.

That is what I have read too, they are like an infant. However, from people that have them? They are highly entertaining, lovable, friendly, good with kids, good with cats and dogs, clean, etc.

My parents had one once. His name was Ranger and he went everywhere with them, even their honeymoon! Mom had to leave the sink plugged in the bathroom with a little water in it because racoons had to wash everything they ate before they ate it. She said they'd give him a piece of popcorn and he'd dunk it in water before he'd eat it.

The guy who owns a local bait shop has a young Racoon - found it all by itself too -he's 11 months old now. Real ham

He was on his way to the shop to get some live shrimp for him to eat

It is a marvel to watch them dunk everything before they eat. They are beautiful animals no doubt and this little guy was surely precious.

I will check on him later today.

I have a friend who had one and it had its own "Archie Bunker" chair. He said no one could go near that chair for fear that their life would be taken from them!

My parents owned a skunk...
It was a love hate relationship....

While they loved him they hated him for keeping them up in the middle of the night him being nocturnal and all

The only problem with a baby coon is that they grow into big coons. I had one as a kid, and she was one of the most interesting pets I have ever had. It is amazing what they can do with their hands. There are no latches that they can not open. As they mature they tend to become more agressive. Boars because of their size can be especially dangerous. Needless to say they are wild animals. When mine started opening rabbit hutches to play with the rabbits, she had to go. Gave her to a guy who put her in an outdoor pen (I kept her inside) with a coop. Once she acclimated to the pen, they turned her loose. She came and went for three years raising two litters before finally disappearing. The possibility of exposure to rabies is always a concern when dealing with wild animals of unknown background.

Why don't you get a ferret instead? They are in the same family as skunks and are smarter (not to mention easier to come by and a little less stinky). There are even angora ferrets with long hair. Very cool looking.
