Well, I just typed up an introduction, hit "submit" and for some reason...I do not see it. So, here it goes again!

Thanks so much for all of the wonderful information on this site and forum. I have no doubt that it will be incredibly useful as my family begins our chicken coop adventures.

When my wife and I were first married we had a small coop with 4 hens but because of city code, we decided the chickens needed a new home.

Now, finally...the city code is changing and we have plenty of room for chickens. Our children are very excited and after a recommendation, I submitted an order to Mypetchickens.com

Our chicks will ship on June 8th and we have 7 coming.

1- Cream Legbar
2- Easter Eggers
1- Barred Plymouth Rock
1- Road Island Red
1 - Australorp
1 - Speckled Sussex

I was hoping for an Olive Egger but they were sold out for this shipping date.

The chicks will stay inside until feathers start coming in, then they will be transitioned to a double coop.

As far as a little information on me. I'm a husband, father of two, a music teacher and children's chorus director, and an avid Star Wars fan.

Nice to meet you Johnathan - glad you joined the Backyard chickens flock. You have some nice breeds coming. Are you getting "sexed "chicks?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. My family and I are all avid Star Wars fans as well. I think my daughter can quote every line from the original trilogy verbatim. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. You have a nice mix of breeds coming. Australorps and Speckled Sussex with their calm and gentle temperaments are especially good breeds for children, and Australorps are the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. My children, and granddaughter, made lap pets of our Australorps and Speckled Sussex. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Just trying to soak up as much information as I can before the chicks arrive.
