A bond between dog and ducks

So every night I take my dogs out after I get out of work

My lab, blocko, goes out first because she has to be on a leash even in the yard because she can, and will, slip out under the fence at the back of the yard.

Every night she goes out walks around. And makes a stop at the duck pen. She sticks her nose to the fencing and the ducks come over and squawk at her.

She bonded with my two Rouens Rio and Rudi last year when the ducks were inside after their pen got destroyed by a falling tree and we were rebuilding their pen. The ducks were in converted dog crates made into pens for them, blocko would stick her nose in the bars and Rio and Rudi would come and nibble on her nose and quack at her. She would lay next to the crate and Rio and Rudi would lay next to her through the bars

And so every night since then she would visit just them, but as time went on all the ducks started to come over to say hi

Today it was raining out and blocko hates the rain. She went out, did her business and wanted to go right inside.

As we are walking towards the house I hear the ducks going nuts. I look as they are swarming towards the front of the pen, quacking their little heads off. They didn’t stop til I took blocko over so they could all say hello to her. After they said hello they calmed down and went about their business splashing in the puddles from the rain

They legit got mad that their dog was being brought inside before they could say hello 😂. It was so darn cute it made me laugh

She’s a mutt. But the only part we know for a fact she has in her is lab. Been thinking of a dna test to see what else she has
I think they make stuff up in those honestly, my friend has a dog that looks to be about 1/4 pit and 3/4 boxer… dumb like a boxer too, sweet as can be. They did a DNA test, came back with great pyranese, poodle, short hair pointer, chihuahua, Shetland pony, all sorts of crazy stuff.
Dogs are dogs, i love em all.

Love the ducks and dog relationship!

I have two rescue dogs. Neither appeared to me to be what the rescues told me they were. DNA tests proved me half right.

The "terrier" has some of that in her, but is 26 percent Chihuahua -- which is what the rescue told me. Of course, they neglected to mention how MANY other breeds were involved - most of which are high energy, as is Dinah.

The second rescue was billed as an Australian Cattle Dog. All I had to go on before they brought him to me was a tiny photo. I didn't believe that for a second that he was a cattle dog. He looked a lot like a pit bull mix. Turns out, DNA says he's about half pit bull and has eight other breeds -- none of which is cattle dog. I suspect they believed it would be harder to find a home for a blind pit bull. George is, however, an absolute love.

It's kind of fun to know what breeds were involved in making your dog, but I have to say, human DNA testing was less fun. Turns out my family bloodlines include much less of what I wanted them to, and a lot more of some that I never imagined. My ancestors must have traveled a LOT.

Thanks for sharing your story and the photos!
