I have recently had 7 chicks hatch from the incubator. I was praying for a broody for a while... and today I got one... she’s a barred rock or Marans (not sure which). Shes been on the best all day on a clutch of 16 eggs! I’ve given her food and water and locked her away separately from the other hens. Should I move her or can she not be moved? Do these hens make good mothers and stay broody? What breed is she please see the pic below. Would she be able to sit on 16 eggs ? Will I have to get her off the nest to feed? Any advice is really welcome

I'd leave her alone in her own space with food and water and try not to make her off the nest by moving her. Let her do her own thing. Not all broody chickens are good mama's though. Mine ate all but one baby. It was crazy. So be prepared to raise them if you have to. Also don't overwhelm her with too many eggs. If it's her first time being broody she also might get bored and abandon the clutch.

Yeah I appreciate that! She’s on a few eggs but it’s her first time being broody! I have an incubator going so if she abandoned them I would put the eggs in there straight away! I’ve left her with food and water and her own shed to sit and hatch her babies out! Only on day 1 at the moment!!
