I have an Australitop chicken that has been very broody lately. She laid an egg about a week ago that had no shell. It wasn’t a rubber egg though. She just layed the yolk and whites with no shell. She also layed one the next day. After the first time she layed the egg without a shell she wouldn’t get out of the nesting box. I don’t know if she’s egg bound or not. She is still eating and drinking normally. I am clueless on what to do. Please help me! Thank you.

Where are you located? Has it been hotter than normal? Are you applying oyster shell? Is she a new egg layer? Is she pooping normally? Are you trying to break her broodiness? Usually broody hens don't lay eggs.

I live in Iowa. It's been hot but not much hotter than usual. I am mixing oyster shell in with her feed. She isn't a new egg layer, she's been laying for almost a year now. I am trying to break her broodiness.

If she's eating, drinking, and pooping normally, she's not egg bound. She could just be having a bit of issues due to her broodiness. I wouldn't worry too much right now, but keep an eye on her.

If she is laying eggs, she's not broody.
It sounds like she is having trouble laying eggs, does not feel well and is isolating herself in the nesting box.

Soft shell and shell-less eggs are very hard to expel, sometimes if one leaks it can cause irritation and/or inflammation of the oviduct.
Don't mix oyster shell with the feed, provide it free choice. I would give her a direct dose of Poultry Nutri-Drench at 1cc per 3lbs of weight for 3days in a row. Offer her 1/2tablet of Caltrate for a week as well to see if that makes a difference in shell quality.

Thank You for the help!

I was taking her out of the nesting box today and I realized she doesn’t have any feathers on her stomach.
Here’s a picture:

This is on her under stomach.
I don’t know if this relates to the weird eggs she has layed, why she’s not laying eggs, or her broodieness.
Thank you again for all of the help!
