A BYC CHANGE OVER REALITY. All need to read.

Judging by the emails and messages A LOT of people are tired of being talked down to and told to buy new computers. If someone wants to spend their money and buy me one heck go for it! But do not tell me to go buy something I cannot afford.

I, too, am tired of the negative statements directed at those of us having problems.

I agree. While I am not having too many issues, I am trying to help someone who was using BYC all the time. Now she can't hardly get on unless she finds another computer to use, making it very hard to communicate with those who purchase from her. She's tried all the basic suggestions on here, that I sent to her. I've been trying to stay really positive, but I understand her frustration, and she hasn't been able to get any real help. It kind of feels like those who can't get on are just being shrugged off and BYC will just move on without them... When she sent something asking for help, she got a standard form response directing on how to use the new BYC.

My apologies if this has already been suggested somewhere.
The first day, it was very slow for me, and I couldnt really navigate from section to section (impatience, slow-loading, none of the features I was reading about, etc).

I use Google Chrome on my computer.

I was frustrated and really bummed out. I have also read that it no longer would work on Android phones. Thats also what I have. I was able to access the site on my phone fine, however. I have not yet tried it with my Kindle.

I remembered that I had installed a utility tool to speed up my computer some time ago. It put my computer in "turbo" mode by disabling features that take from computer speed, and that you don't use every day.

I dont recall any of the technical mumbo-jumbo. In fact, i couldnt figure out how to "un-turbo" my computer so that i-Tunes would even work any longer, so I uninstalled this utility thing.

AND now, all the java and drop-downs, etc work fine on the site, and the speed is just as fast as it used to be. The only problem I have is with the bright white hurting my eyes.

I am sharing this with you in case you too may have added something to make your computer work faster, like I did- that slows down sites like this.

I may have missed them but I have seen no post of people talking down to anyone having problems. I have a 6+ year old computer and having no problems so it's not the age of the computer i think it's some of the programs that they have.

This is good information glad you found your problem. And i wanted to try the multi quote.

good luck to all hope you all find where your problems are.

Like I think I posted previously on this thread, or in another thread in the "Feedback" section of the forum, the BYC Staff is not advocating for anyone to go out and purchase a new computer in order to use BYC. That would be ludicrous, and is just not feasible anyway. (Heck, most of us on the Staff wouldn't even be able to do that!) Trust me, Nifty-Chicken isn't getting any kickbacks from Apple or Dell or whoever.

If anyone is telling you to go out and buy a new machine just to use the forum, please ignore them. If you think anyone is being rude, please report them.

We'll take care of it.

There are plenty of completely free solutions to speed up your browser if you are experiencing problems. It *is* true that a browser change or upgrade might be necessary, but those things should be free. Let one of the Staff know if you have any questions.

I haven't posted my thoughts of the change over because if you have any issues you are made to feel like a "complainer", or "rabble-rouser", or a few unpublishable names. I've spent time looking through it, I've had problems, I won't be on as much because it takes me too long to get where I want to be and I'm not a tech-savvy person. But I'll tell you what, I'm not a complainer, and I'm not stirring up trouble, and if a FEW of you can't get through your heads that some are going to have trouble, and some will leave because of it, then that is your problem. Lay off the negative statements and stop running down those having trouble.

Are you talking about negativity towards statements like "I hate this, I'm leaving!" or "I'm having a problem, I can't........." ???
I think this is difficult for many people here, including me. I would be very angry to read something negative toward someone who is asking for help.

I did make a post, probably poorly composed, pointing out that computers, software and the internet are changing so fast that computers basically have about a 3 year life span... after that it's hard for them to keep up with things going on, and its time to start thinking about replacement. I'm sorry if the tone came off wrong.

Once you've had a computer that long, it's started accumulating a mix of software, pictures and data that don't always interact well. One program will have a bit of code that causes unintended consequences, interfering with another program. Adware, malware, bad memory sectors, lack of hard drive space, fragmentation, and so forth all start building up. I do generally stretch my computers out for 4 to 5 years, but it takes a lot of maintenance and geekiness, and a lot of patience, to do that. I just replaced my wifes 5 year old computer, it had become almost useless, sites wouldn't load, programs were really slow, it would drop internet connections. She only used it for a few programs and for a few websites, but old age had set in to the machine. My main computer is 4 years old; it was a state of the art powerhouse workstation when new, but it's really past its lifespan; I'm postponing the inevitable. It's actually behaving great on this site, but my graphics and database software have become very slow and hang a lot.

You're so right. Nobody deserves to be talked down to or replied to with a snotty remark like "go by a new computer".
But how about someone talking about how their old computer is freezing up, running slow, etc. And someone may give alot of thought to their problem and, from their experience, suggest that their old computer may need to be replaced because their Old computer may not have the speed or power that's required nowadays.

Would that be negativity?

I think your post here is well composed about computers getting old and having problems.
