A BYC CHANGE OVER REALITY. All need to read.

I mod on 5 different forum platforms and it is standard on all of them. I can pull user stats for every website I own and manage and pull that info. So it is pretty standard in my world.

I've not commented on the changes to BYC in any of the many threads, figuring it will all settle down with time (except for a few who will be saying, "I remember when..." forever - other retired pastors may add 'amen' here!) I still believe we'll get past the novelty and the distress soon.

Its new. That means relearning what we'd come to take for granted, look for what was once familiar. Soon the new format will be familiar to anybody who just perseveres. Why stick with it? Because the tech stuff isn't what constitutes BYC. The community IS BYC. With all its diversity; expert and novice, pet keepers and livestock owners, urban and rural folk, younger and grey as me, outspoken and lurkers - WE are BYC! That value is not changed.

I've instituted a lot of change in a lot of settings over the decades, so it is with some empathy and deep sincerity that I extend my thanks to those who've worked so hard to bring BYC so far.

I wasn't very fond of it at first but after a while i loved it! I am used to it and i love how when you click on New posts you can acctually read part of the post and see what the last post was. It's much easier i think :D

You hit the nail on the head!!! It's the people that make BYC what it is.

Funny thing is before changing from the last platform it was modified many times and changed drastically. It's just those changes where gradual and this one is all at once.

I could care less about all of the bells and whistles, I rarely used them before and doubt highly that I would have used them now. The problem for me is that it is painful visually. Something needs to be done to tone down the brightness and no I am not going to adjust my monitor every time I come to the site. Something needs to be done to increase the font size back to where it was or change all that danged blue to black.

Everyone that has spent time staring at a monitor for work knows what I'm talking about here. Stop staring at the monitor and it takes several minutes for your sight to settle down so you can see normally again. This is what is happening to me now after just a few minutes on the site.

Thank you for starting this thread, and for giving many of us who were unaware of the underlying issues a glimpse of the situation. That I (at least) was not aware of the issues you all faced is a tribute to all of the hard and caring work that you have all carried out for so long. Thank you! I wouldn't be at the point I am at today without those patches and band-aids having been applied. I would not have met so many wonderful people in this chicken-oriented corner of the Internet. My flock also thanks you.

I don't think I'm unique in saying that change to something that is important to me always inspires a bit of fear. For me, this can come out in all sorts of directions....frustration, anger, indignation....and I've felt a few of those plus more over the last 24 hours. But, as I spend a bit more time here, take a few breaks, then come back, I find that I am slowly coming to accept appreciate and enjoy some of the changes that have been made. I'm going to carry on, learn the ropes and continue here. This is where I started and it's where I will stay.

Can someone clarify for me what they mean about font size? Font size of what exactly? Where? Been trying to figure out what everyone is talking about because I don't see any smaller font on the forum. And now, we have the ability to make it larger in our posts. The post font size is actually decent size, no smaller than the old size. The stuff at the bottom of the page in the brown area is a tad smaller, but that isn't part of the main forum you're are actively using, really.

I also don't understand the brightness issue. I didn't adjust my monitor and this seems no brighter than the other one.
