It seems to me some breeds start to lay eggs at different ages. Is there a chart somewhere that shows the different breeds and when they start to lay eggs? My Buff Orpington started right at 20 weeks and has laid an egg everyday since. My Welsummer laid 3 eggs and stopped. The cochins seem to mature more slowly. Still waiting on theirs. Do some chickens start to lay then stop for some reason?

check out my pet chicken, they should have some breed specific info on hens and laying. We have an Australorp that stop laying for a month or two before laying again. She's healthy, I posted topics an it, and chocked it up to her just taking a break... Hope this helps

We thought our BO pullet was a rooster until she started laying eggs. She was very masculine in appearance - and even crowed a bit. She layed an egg every other day for about a month - then quit and hasn't layed an egg in two months. I'm no expert, but it could be because she was in a smallish cage for a while (when she was laying the eggs) until we could get the coop built. After we finished the coop and moved her in, we got more pullets. Perhaps the stress caused her to stop laying? IDK:th

Thats funny you say that about a masculine looking buff orp... I've seen several photos of hens that I'd sworn were roo's, ans we have both white and buff orps, and at least one of each is manly looking.

Plain Old Dee. I was so glad to see a pic of Roger. I have 10 sex link Golden Comets. One of them is named Bit*h. She does nothing but bit*h and lay eggs. She's hell-rarious. When I'm outside I know exactly where she is. She's bigger than the rest and has the roo like comb as does Roger. I wondered about her for a while. She's never crowed but I was waiting for it. I told some of the people on another thread about sending her to Sweden for the operation. A hen trapped in a roo's body. I told them that she'd have to sell her one egg a day and save up, and that she'd have to put a sign up at the end of the drive. Egg for sale!
