After researching pips when a chick is beginning to hatch, I didn’t understand that it can breath fine, even if you can’t see the hole. Since I was under the wrong impression, I freaked out and helped a couple chicks hatch when I didn’t need to so I’m creating this thread so people can understand that the tiny little pip (that I like to call the eruption because it looks kinda like a mountain erupting out of the shell).
This pip looks very small and it seems like they wouldn’t be able to breath but they can breath perfectly fine for hours and hours (mine have been inside without any movement after the initial pip for 24 hours!!!) I’ll post pictures of the pips. This is a time of rest and relaxation. The chick has just done some very hard work to bust through the inner air sack and has finally pecked a little pip so this is the time that is rests and obsorbs the yolk and as soon as the yolk is absorbed: it’s filled with a stupendous amount of energy which helps it hatch the rest of the way!!!
so remember that a pip looks too small for the little chick to breath but it can breath perfectly fine and it need much rest after this while it absorbs the yolk, once the yolk is absorbed it’ll bust outta there!! So rest easy, kids! Everything is going to be ok!!!
