I have a chick which i found behind the barn...no mother in sight. so, I scooped the little one up brought him/her inside. It was cold so i but her/him under a warm light. the next day I got up early found a box to keep her (I think it is a hen) and put her inside the greenhouse where she would stay warm put in food ect... but when i came home I think the chick was too busy calling for its mother that it didn't eat anything at all (empty crop it seems) ...and she was cold.

At the moment it is under a warm light. I gave the chick some water just a few minutes ago and I put her back under a light.

should I at least try to feed her something before bed? Not sure what else to do...:(

The chick won't eat or drink if it is cold. Make sure you keep it at a comfortable temp for its age. Can you post a pic for us to tell how old? I would keep it at about 90 degrees with a way for it to get out of the heat if need be. You may need to show it how to eat and drink. Maybe give it some electrolytes or sugar water to help perk it up :)

Good idea with the sugar water I'm going to try that. Yeah I let her warm up before I offered water.

I think she maybe three to two weeks old? correct if i'm wrong.

I'm thinking a little over a week...and, at that age and being out on her own, I would say she needs to be kept at least at 85 degrees. I also think she may be dealing with coccidiosis by the hunched look. Start her on Corid. If she won't drink on her own, use an eyedropper and dose her with just about the amount that you would think she would drink on her own at one sitting. Do this every 2 - 3 hours until she starts readily drinking on her own.

I would also make a mash out of crumbles, yogurt and water and try tempting her with that..along with the scrambled egg. I think that once the Corid kicks in you will see a huge change in your little friend.

Great job in rescuing her...now, we just need to get her healthy and happy!

I'm hoping for a miracle that in the morning the baby chick will still be alive.

We feed her something today and got antibiotics...lets hope for the best in the morning.

If it's calling for mama, be mama. I'd take the chick up and snuggle it on your lap for a little bit and lay it back under the lamp. For water supplements, I reccomend Sav-a-Chick. Sorry I can't help more, good luck.
