A chick that won't grow?! *UPDATE*

WOW - what a beautiful girl. So she adopted some babies of her own? So glad you didn't give up on her - she is really beautiful. Sometimes they are just late bloomers. We had some guests here this weekend and they were all ooing and aahing over the chickens and went wild when they saw Ruth and were saying "Oh look at that beautiful grey one - its the prettiest one of all". I just smiled and said thank you - she's special.

* I remember reading somewhere that malabsorbtion syn. IN People is thought due to too heavy a mucus coat in the GI tract. Enzymes might help, too, if any chicks show up like her in future.

What a fantastic happy ending

Did you notice a change in her when you put her with the young chicks?

Yes she perked up a lot and seemed to have more personality. She was bottom of the pecking order with her brothers and sisters, and seemed a lot more comfortable with the babies. She wasn't much bigger than them either by the time they were two weeks old.

That's so great - same with Ruth - getting those babies saved her life. Amazing what going from bottom of pecking order to "top mama" can do for them.
