A chicken died

2 of my 8 three yo chickens have lost feathers from lower chest all the way back to their vent. Been this way about 2 months. Yesterday one was laying by the waterer. I petted her, when she got up noticed the vent covered in poop. Had to leave for an appt when I came back she was dead I’m concerned about other chickens. I have 6 new ones 4 mo old. I keep barn lime in coop, nesting boxes & dusting boxes. I’ve also had problems with squirrels getting into their run. Any thoughts?

Could she have gotten fly strike? Are their maggots on her abdomen? Was the poop blocking her vent completely? When did she lay her last egg?

Clean all their butts with warm water and then treat the whole coop and run with permithian and look up YouTube videos on treating chickens with it, then get mite powder from your feed store and dust the birds and boxes with it. I’m pretty sure you have feather mites.

This is a possibility too

It was mostly in the feathers, not really covering the vent. No flies on her belly. Just no feathers at all in a strip from chest to vent
