Last nite one of my Buckeye hens (10 mos old) was standing in one place and didn't look happy. I picked her up and her neck didn't feel right so I came in and looked up "impacted crop". Fed her some bread soaked in olive oil, she seemed better so I locked up. Came in and looked up "egg bound". This morning, she didn't look any better so I brought her in and soaked her in warm water in the kitchen sink. Got her to eat some warm yogurt with oatmeal, then she fell asleep in the sink, water was halfway up her side. She was pulsing her abdomen the whole time, but nothing came out, I tried a little massage, too. She woke up and started squawking so I took her back out and isolated her in the coop with food and water. So is this the extent of what I should do? I am not going to spend a vet fee, so if she doesn't improve, I will have to cull her. I don't want her to suffer. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks, mrkep

Well soaking her was the right thing to do but you might have to do it more than once. and I would keep her where you can keep a close eye on her.. also putting something like vaseline around and just inside her vent might help her lay it too. Do you have some tums or liquid calcium you could dissolve the tums in her warm water that will give her extra calcium right now.

Thanks Miss Lydia, I will soak her again, and give her some calcium. How long should I wait before giving up? She is very listless, just sits and pulses, doesn't seem to be taking food or water.
