OMG! I was sitting at the computer about an hour ago and DH was on the couch watching a movie, all of a sudden he goes. OH *%&@#
Im like what and start to get up. Hes like "Don't move there is a Copper head on the floor!" I peer around the desk and sure enough not more then 2' from me there is a young Copper head laying on the floor head up like it wants to bite something. Our young cat just barely a year old is inches from it and thinks its a play toy! I freak "NO ANDY" which he totally ignores so I call "here kitty kitty kitty" and he comes running over. DH is looking around grabs a sandle and slams it down on the snakes head. Im like what should I do what should I do. Get my gloves. So I go find his leather gloves and he carries it outside and kills it. The crazy thing is that although there are always lots of Copperheads around his parents house we have lived here for 10 years and have only ever seen three garden snakes, never a copperhead. Im a little concerned. More for my pets then myself, though I will be more careful to look where I am going in my house from now on! Has anyone else had this happen? What do you do, and is there any way to prevent it?

My uncle puts those electronic things in his house and it keeps them away.. he had a bunch of copperheads living in his attic in Missouri City, Texas.

THAT is scary! I wonder where it came from?,.. I would be so afraid there were more of them! How big was it?
I am so glad ya'll are OK!!!!
You know there was a thread recently of someone's little girl finding a rattlesnake in the bathroom!
I can't remember who though.

if I ever have that happen to me I would check out of my house real quick. No if ands or buts. That is so scary. Glad to hear you are all ok

Those things are something else. My 12 year old got bit by a BABY copperhead (they say babies are the worst because they dont have the venom control of adults) on her finger this past mothers day. 1 helicopter ride, 24 vials ( 6 bags) of antivenin and 2 days in Gerorgetown University Hospital's PICU later and she's ok but it was SCARY! Her finger swelled and then her arm all they way to her armpit! 4 months later her finger is still numb from the nerve damage. I am not a proponent of killing snakes... UNLESS they're copperheads, Oh .....and if they're IN MY HOUSE they're fair game.

Glad you guys and the cat were ok. Copperheads are nothing to play with... look.. and this was a mere 20 minutes after she was bitten.. it got MUCH worse.

YIKES....

You're like the second BYCer in a couple of weeks to have a venomous snake in their house. Someone on the predators section had a rattlesnake in the house. The 9 year old found it when he got up to pee...it was behind the toilet.

I think I would move, and leave no forwarding address. Killer snakes are bad enough outdoors, but in is just UGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I even like snakes.

I kill first and ask questions later.
The last one was a redbelly water snake. They are HUGE and now I know nonvenomous. Last snake we had IN the house looked really similar to a diamondback. It had gotten in through the ventilation.
We have cotton mouths, rattlers and more around here.
Glad nobody got hurt in the OP's case.

MysticalMom, glad your daughter will be ok.
