Hey people!
I hope to make a few new friends here.
I have a few duck questions I wanted to ask and hope I can get some advise. Part of coming here, is that I don't see many duck people around in other places to ask things. So I couldn't find these answers in other places.
A few weeks ago I'd jumped into getting a few ducklings from Cal Ranch. I'm pretty happy with them.
But when I went back there, I realized they might not be muscovy ducks, like I'd originally thought. They might just be anything. And that got me worried.
They had one of the bins labeled assorted ducklings and one 'I thought' it said muscovies. And I'd mixed that up thinking both bins were muscovy ducklings. The reason I was worried about this is because I'm in the city and pretty worried about getting quiet ducks. I'd really appreciate any advise and tips on how to both manage keeping them quiet and how real that is to keep them quiet. I'd read that muscovies and indian runners are pretty quiet, but I haven't done them myself. And now I'm thinking I might not have quiet muscovies like I thought. I'm not dead set on muscovies, but just read they are very quiet. I do like how the indian runners look though, and hear they are also quiet?
So ...wow...
I've seen some youtube videos. One of them scared the crap out of me how noisy one guys ducks were. And that motivated me to post to get advise. But some peoples videos on youtube it looks like their ducks are pretty quiet also, but not necessarily the quiet breeds. So maybe there are some ways of keeping them quiet? What do you think about this? If one guy's ducks can be noise as....cough, and another's can be really quiet, then maybe there's also more owner behavior influence than I thought.
Ducks are interesting to me, because they seem more curious and active than chickens. And the meat potential seems better. And I wouldn't have to worry about roosters. One of my questions also;
How many ducks can you have in a yard before the neighbors will notice the noise (in the city)? (I'm not talking about city ordinances but the numbers of your duck herd reaching 'noticeable' noise.) Is there a typical figure you'd say where their noise level will just get too big? And what do you think that figure would be?
Also interested in any comments on quiet breeds.
Thanks so much.
