Hi, im planning to add some lights in the coop to help encourage egg laying.

I had two questions for folks who have done this before:
1) does it matter if the lights are in the closed in run or the henhouse? For a variety of reasons in the run is a lot easier

2) do led lights work? I ve heard that blue spectrum light doesnt have any impact and wanted to see if that is in fact true.

Many thanks!

I have lights that I just put in the chicken coop about a week and a half ago. I definitely recommend it! My egg production has gone up a LOT AND my ducks have come out of molting to start laying again! Just make sure the lights are in an area where the chickens are at night. If they typically stay in the run, put the lights in the run. If they go in the henhouse at night, put them there. I actually chased all of our birds into the coop each night and locked them in for awhile to make sure they were in the light during the dark hours.

LED lights should work. I don't see why not. I am using flourescent (spelling?) bulbs and they are doing fine. Just make sure the LED lights are bright enough to mimic daylight somewhat. You don't want a dim lighting in the coop, but want it to be light enough to stimulate them into laying.

Good luck!!!
