A couple questions

ok... so I guess its just up to the individual which to use... if other people are using it, and its not killing off their chicks and chickens... I guess I'm not so afraid to use it also if need be. I understand some people are all about being "green"... but when it comes to bugs... I don't want anything to do with bugs of any kind. Flies are bad enough, but the kind of bugs that crawl on ya... nope... not for me. I know chicken bugs generally can't live for long on people... but I still don't want them on me or my grand kids either for that matter! Plus I have horses, and my vets tells me Chicken lice can live on horses, so I'm not into that at all! I am just so new to chickens, that I don't know what is safe to use for the chicken. I use Endure mixed with Bronco on my horses, and Frontline on my dogs and cats. So I am open to any suggestions for what to use with chickens! I just don't want to poison them. I would like to put a few in the freezer this fall. Thanks for the info. And if anyone else has more suggestions to keep bugs off chickens... I'd love to hear them!

we also have 6 week old chicks (so by no means am I an expert) but as soon as we moved them outside (last week) we covered the floor in DE and I have not seen any bugs so it appears to be working!

I wish the DE worked for me, I try not to use anything toxic on my animals, or myself

, but I also know that those bugs suck the life out of the birds. I have one pullet that's been in a funk since I bought her.... I've wormed her 2x in the last month, no improvement.... I was holding her on my lap one day and noticed the bugs crawling all over my hands

So I liberally applied the poultry dust. I've checked her 2x since June 11 and found no bugs. Her appetite has been better, she even scratches in the dirt a little and forages out in the pasture some....before, she just kinda stood around, frumpy looking.....a little gust of wind blew her over one day :(

Yes, horses and other livestock will get those bugs.... I hear people say humans don't get them, but I'm not too sure about that - I wouldn't want to test the theory!
