I have 7 Welsummer chicks and 2 of them have much more of a color contrast than the others with very bright neck/head feathers and their legs are gray. Is this anything to be concerned about? I live in the city and unable to have roosters. Is it maybe just that they aren't purebred Welsummers? I got them from a local pet store and they said the breeders sex them when they hatch so they should all be pullets but why such a variance? I just want to make sure it is normal and nothing to be alarmed about. I read sometimes chicks have gray legs but that will fade after a few weeks and they'll become yellow but mine are just as gray as the day I bought them and these 2 also look VERY different from the other 5.
hmm, well it's not a big deal if they aren't Welsummers as long as they're not cockerel. It would be nice to know what they are, any Idea?
Well that sucks the one on the right looks like a roo, one of these days I may have to take some pics of each individually. I live in the city so if one started to crow I'd have some angry neighbors
The one on the far right has yellow legs, the 2 pictured with gray/green legs are the only 2 that aren't yellow. They do have some poofy cheeks like Ameraucanas. The store I bought them from had both those and Welsummers come in that day so I'm thinking I must have got a couple of those mixed in with my Welsummers when comparing pics. As long as they aren't roo's it makes no difference to me. I'll put some batteries in my real camera when I have somebody to hold them for me sometime within the next couple days to show close-ups of all 7. I definitely need to make sure I have no roo's before they start crowing. Not only does the camera on my phone suck, it'd be so much easier to have one person hold and the other take the pics. Some of you have great eyes, I mean spotting a potential roo when that wasn't even one in question, it just happened to be in peripheral view (or maybe I just suck at it?). It is unfortunate I got 2 non Welsummers and possibly a roo out of the 7 I bought but one of the potential Ameraucanas is my favorite one anyway, she's the friendliest of the 7. She doesn't mind being held and eats out of my hand. The other one is growing quite a bit larger and has an attitude though. It flies over to confront the other birds and puffs up/attacks them. I also have one Welsummer that is large like one of the non Welsummers. I'm not sure if the one on the right is that large Welsummer or not, I honestly can't tell the difference between them I'll need to figure a way before I take pics to not get them mixed up
