Bizzy, so Lil Bit is sitting on all the eggs now? Are some of them infertile? Maybe you could take those so she would have a more manageable load. Wear those gloves, though! Ouch! She packs a punch!
For the moment, Lil Bit is attempting to make herself a lot bigger than she is, and is sitting on 8 eggs. 3 eggs are peeking out from under her. They should all be fertile. Barney is quite the studley man. Lat week, I cracked open 8 eggs, and all 8 were fertile. If I decide to let her keep sitting ( I just have not decided yet) I will candle the eggs next week, and remove any duds.
Tonight I was happy to see only 3 girls in the teenage coop. No strays in their nest box. In the big girl coop, the girl who was sitting on the teenagers eggs was happily on the roost where she belonged. I reached into the nest box, and almost pottied on myself.
She was sitting on 5 eggs. You have got to be kidding me, right? At least she didn't try to tear my hand off when I reached under her and stole the eggs out. As I shut the door, she was circling around the nestbox mking little cooing sounds. I almost felt guilty.
Then I opened the babies door. I had to laugh. Lil Bit was siting there, all flattened out as much as possible, with some eggs poking out from under her.
I put on the heavy glove, and reached under her and pulled out all the eggs. All 14 of them LOL. Most of them were pretty cold. I marked 8 of the warmest ones, and poked them back under her. We shall see what happens tomorrow. Maybe with less eggs under her, she can actually keep them warm.
Well, tonight, most of the eggs were warm. Smoothie was sitting next to Lil Bit, sharing the egg-sitting duties. I fished out 2 unmarked ones. I tried to be quick, because I didn't have the glove. I thought they would tag team beating up my hand, but Smoothie stayed pretty calm. After a few minutes though, she took direction from Lil Bit, and started trying to pierce my hand. Meanwhile, Franklin kept screaming, which got the sikie trio all upset. Mushmush tried to hide under Barney, which got Millie all in a huff.
I gave up and crawled out of the coop. Kitty was yelling at me because I hadn't brought his food yet. Went in to get his food, and the parrots started their high pitched, ear-splitting, migraine inducing, shrill screechywhistle because I wasn't paying enough attention to them, while doofydog stood there with a ball in her mouth. Good thing the indoor cat was asleep.
