The chicks have been hinting that they'd like a ride. Two days ago three of them huggled beside me on the door ledge to the run and last night I watched one girl looking as though she wanted to come up. Today she did, starting behind me on an old milking stool then taking the leap to my shoulder. She was followed by two more, on my knees. They were cautious, gentle. The one on my shoulder groomed my hair the way she would stroke her feathers.

I like this, it's as much fun as pigeon-lifting in Picadilly!

I'm home all day tomorrow so I'll try to shape this behavior. What do you do with chickens that like to take a ride?

I discourage them, and quickly! Been pooped on one too many times.

But that's just me. Have fun!

I guess I've shovelled enough manure that chicken poop doesn't bother me! I'm a little surprised (pleased) at how friendly they are. I don't expect mammal affection, but if anyone has tips on gentling them, I'm happy to listen.
