Thank you for this link.

Thanks for the link. A lot of neat stuff there. I have tried looking on Craigslist and I've also posted there looking for items. Nothing yet. I keep looking. I might try a mobil home place. They may have some small window. I really don't want to pay a lot since I am talking about a chicken coop. The fun part of building these are the deals you come across. I just finished up a dog house style for my baby indian runner ducks.

None of the coops I have made have any windows in them. Sure, there is ventilation but the chickens stay outside most of the time so they really don't need a window. I can open the front of the coops, which is great to do in the summer. Makes for easy cleaning too.

I don't have a router so is there another way to make a frame for a piece of glass? I don't have a table saw either. I suppose these are 2 things I will soon have to invest in. A nice scroll saw would be nice....... lol. I'll keep looking for those little windows. Keep the ideas coming though.

You've got runner ducks, me too, well I have 3 different breeds and one of them is a black runner. I would love to see a pic of what you made for them.
My husband also said once "they're just chickens! " but soon he realized that their health is far more important then couple of bucks (oh and also he knows if 1 dies, I will get 4

Ventalition is always good, if it's windows or any kind of methods of ventilation. I'm not good with "glass" don't know where or how to cut them.
Good luck with your projects and birds :)

I have fawn and white runners. I have adults and I have babies that are close to 5 weeks old that I want to sell. They are all boys.

The babies now live here. This was my last project. Still have a couple of touch ups to do.

My adult ducks live here. They never use it other then the female laying her egg. The large door is open.

The baby duck house is now to the right of this bigger duck house.

Ok here is another way. Make a frame around the hole cutting just straight pieces. Make sure the frame over hangs the hole by at least an inch. Take measurements and have some clear plastic cut to fit the inside of your frame with an overhang of about an inch or you could have it cut the same size as your frame. Its your call. Use liquid nails to fasten the plastic to the frame. I'd use polycarbonate because its pretty much unbreakable. It can be drilled and screwed just like wood it will fog over time but the only ones that will see will be the chickens. Once you get the plastic attached to the frame then attach the frame to the coop. Using predrilled holes through the plastic and frame to keep the wood screws from breaking the wood or the plastic. If you need to have it waterproof then caulk. Id do an inside frame too the same size as the window frame if there isnt framing already on the inside of the window.

I can draw you some sketches but it will take me time to get them onto the web. let me know It should be pretty easy too. I can even sketch a window that opens for you. A little more work but pretty straightforward to do. The only big cuts to be made will be done by where ever you buy the plastic. And if you have to cut it yourself all you need is a straight edge and a linoleum knife to score then the plastic should snap.

perchie.girl, you have a great idea. I think I can do that. I would like to do that on the baby house. I think that would look nice over the door. I would like to make a window that opens for the larger coops. I did find a sight that has the perfect windows and they seem very reasonable. http://www.readyshed.com/ I may even check a place near me that makes sheds. Heck, I've bought 2 sheds from him so maybe I can get a deal on windows. It's worth looking into.

Check Ebay for play house windows, there are several sellers on there. I bought the windows for my coop from there and am very happy with them.
