A Delaware Starter Flock Journey

Wk 12 (Day 84) weigh-ins...

My FCR @12 weeks is 3.37 lbs of feed per 1 lbs of live body weight gained... So far have gone thru 1,445 lbs of feed in 84 days...

Out of 52 cockerels.... 6 cockerels @ 12 weeks weighed over 2400 grams (5.3 lbs) that where worth growing out to 9 months... 1 was superior to all others using Hogan's Method... Had 11 other cockerels over 2400 grams (5.3 lbs) but color was off or bad feet... Largest cockerel 2555 grams (5.63 lbs) Smallest cockerel 1590 grams (3.5lbs) Average cockerel weight 2213 grams (4.9 lbs)

Out of 48 pullets.... 11 pullets @ 12 weeks weighed over 1800 grams (3.97 lbs)... 5 pullets weighed over 2000 grams (4.4 lbs)... Largest pullet 2100 grams (4.63 lbs) Smallest pullet 1195 grams (2.63 lbs) Average pullet 1649 grams (3.6 lbs)

I culled 14 birds for bad feet (8m/6f)... Culled another 7 for off color (7 males)... Culled 3 pullets for being much smaller then rest.... Total of 24 cull birds out of 100 birds for obvious color or feet defects...

Thinned the young flock today down to 6 cockerels and 39 pullets from 100....

How are your Freedom Ranger Hatchery Delawares doing now? Are they laying yet? I am considering purchasing from FR Hatchery.

Thank you,
Rachel

Sorry not been updating, didn't seem to be much interest... They started laying at 5 months old... Really good lay production, they laid in the 80% until big heat wave came thru this past summer... went from mid 70's to over 100 overnight... lost rooster and some hens... was able to get more hatched out of eggs I had before heat wave...
