It can be hard to give yourself a break. But I have the belief that "The first time something goes wrong, right, or upside down, is simply education." Some types of education come at a higher cost than it may at other times. The only time I start to wonder about people is when they make the same mistake more than 3 times, while they wonder why it didn't work this time.

train the dog. get a baby duck and the dog , every time the dog gets excited around the duck scold it if it dont listen smack it with a newspaper. gets some treats and tell it good and give it a treat only when it does something nice to or ignores the duck.
