I would think that the spray is just urine... a strong urine... but still a urine...??

ugh... I had a cat that would pee on the stove burner... Nasty smell when heated. Took me a while to figure out what was going on.

I have a friend that has a small dog house with a material flap and her kitties stay in there during the cold winter... she adds a heat pad when needed.
We also have coons, etc and taking it up at night is a good deterrent.

no not oily really, but maybe kinda viscous/"thick" if that makes sense. Not exactly like normal urine.

We have three outdoor barn cats who have decided to take up residence in different areas of the property. One cat mainly lives in the barn, one mainly lives in the garage, and the third mainly lives on and under the porch. During the winter - they are all quite cozy where they decide to sleep. We've set up boxes with blankets, but they will get cozy wherever there's fluffy things like straw.

If you Google cold weather feral cat shelters - you can learn how to make them more cold-weather proof. I'd consider making a cat house this year just because the fellow who is now living on the porch hasn't lived a winter with us yet.

None of the cats have been indoor cats and are all neutered/vaccinated and treated monthly with Revolution.

never knew spray was different than urine!

what you cant replace ... seal with shellac ... NOT polyurethane.... or any other sealant... you need a shellac based sealer... Zinsser makes a GREAT product... dries supper fast...

whoa! That explains why it is nearly impossible to get the odor out. Must come from the scent gland along with the urine.
