I have 3 French Alpine milk goats. They are wonderful animals and have provided us with many hours of laughter. When they get ornery and playful they will run sideways and hop. Hysterical. We use regular dog collars on ours and we haven't had any problem with them. The goats did get to free range during the day until they ate the wiring for our livestock trailer. They got loose in the barn once and ate the box for my new miter saw.
Goats really hate to get rained on!! They will holler like someone is slowly murdering them if they can't get into shelter.
The July/August issue Hobby Farms has an excellent article on trimming goat hooves. I just picked it up today at TS.
I use horse wormer on my goats every other month.
If they ever get the squirts feed them raspberry or black berry bushes. Clears it right up.
Oak is safe for goats. Mine eat oak leaves all the time. Wilted cherry leaves can kill most animals though.
Goats don't eat much grass, they like all the nasty weeds and briars and poisons. Poison Ivy and oak are particular favorites.
I take mine for walks with my pigs and the chickens follow along as well. They look to me as the leader and follow me all over the place. Although mine have collars on, I don't use a leash unless it is to tie them up for milking or trimming feet.
I hope this helps.
