I have hatched a few babies this year. They are so cute. You forget how much you enjoy the babies.
I hatched a bunch of Splash in this last hatch

These hatched Jan 10 under a hen in the freezing cold. I lost 6 of them to a heavy rain. They were out in the outside pen with their mother and they drowned. I moved the rest inside so I wouldn't lose anymore. They are slow feathering in.

This blue one looks like it will have good lacing

Very slow feathering. These are not out of my Blue Roo. these are out of a young black cockerel that was running the yard and still is. He is typey. I had some pullets that were not penned in breeding pens and a pullet had a nest full of hidden eggs. They are looking good. Legs not long. very Wide little birds.

these hatched three and half weeks ago and all are out of Tubby except for four blues. They are growing fast

I am looking forward to seeing how they do. I am trying several breeding options with them all. I know in all the breeding info I have read it says to breed sibling to sibling to increase size and i want to try that which I am setting some eggs from that Scenario this weekend.
I will be putting Big John a brother to Tubby over the same pullets soon. He is huge but built a little different. Want to see who produces the best chicks.

I don't have any of these for sale. I may have some cockerels later. May have some pullets. Just need to see how they turn out first.

My plan is not to hatch as many as I hatched last year to raise. whew. I want to be done by June hatching, clean the Bator and then just enjoy watching them grow.

Sounds like a good plan. And I know what you mean about not hatching so many. It gets exhausting, taking care of all of them. I'm definitely going to try and not hatch as much this year either, as hard as it is to do. Bator's been going strong for a couple months now. Looking at a tote full of babies that I definitely need to move to the coop tomorrow-they're starting to stink the place up.

I told you this once befor and Im here to say it again...I really want some of your black orps if your up to hatching me some for me..Would like a couple of your blues too..
And Im serious about it. But am on a tight work schedule till mid march (ER) and eggs due for lockdown this sunday with family manning the temps and humidity.

Or if you dont feel like the hatching and would rather ship the eggs that would be fine..

Your birds are great.

Sorry about the little ones drowning .

Yeah Aveca I was pretty sad about that. The pullet decided to get on the roost with other big ones and left them on the ground. It was cold as all get out too. It was unbelieveable amt. of water that came down. Everything has been so muddy here. We braved the mud and shooed them inside and I locked so they couldn't get out. I took the pullet out when she started laying. They have a hanging clamp light and as cold as it has been they have faired just fine.
I haven't been to agressive to jump in the mud or any other situation that might cause me to fall after slipping on a wet porch last year falling on my head and then having to have surgery to repair my neck. I am happy to be pain free and feeling good again. PTL

Paula, I have the small chicks in a box in the laundry room for right now. I am going to move them out by Sunday. They will be a week old by then and should be strong and sturdy by then. I have got to get another brooder ready outside. I am trying to wean those 3 1/2 week old off the heat a little so hopefully they can go on wire or to another inside pen next to other ones

I am purposefully not hatching but every 3 weeks. That gives one group time to grow up and not take up so much room in brooders. Last year I had four brooder boxes full at a time. Way to much work.
