A few of m new chickens stink and I think have colds?

When he comes over give him all the chickens back and educate him on " chicken colds" hopefully he'll at least close his flock and stop selling sick birds.

I'm so sick right now, so if I start over again right now, will the babies make it threw the winter? After I clean everything? I can not afford to buy full grown chickens.

Before I culled all of my birds, I would have one tested as suggested earlier. That way you would have your diagnosis and would know what to do..

If you decide to euthanize the flock, I would only start with chicks from a hatchery or, hatch them yourself. There are just too many people out there that will sell you sick birds. I will never take that risk again.

As for your mama and her eggs. Her eggs are good..do you have an incubator? You could finish hatching them yourself.

I am so sorry this happened. I would find out how to go about testing your flock for Coryza.

Coryza is primarily transmitted by direct bird-to-bird contact. This can be from infected birds brought into the flock as well as from birds which recover from the disease which remain carriers of the organism and may shed intermittently throughout their lives.. Birds risk exposure at poultry shows, bird swaps, and live-bird sales. Inapparent infected adult birds added into a flock are a common source for outbreaks. Within a flock, inhalation of airborne respiratory droplets, and contamination of feed and/or water are common modes of spread

If I'm reading this correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong, direct contact is needed for infection. In that case, disinfecting your coop, waterers and feeders will be enough to stop the disease. Your acreage should be fine.

It also says that your entire flock will not be carriers of this disease. Only those that have had the disease and recover. How do you go about finding out who is going to be a carrier?

I'm trying to learn along with the OP.

I don't have one, that's why I let her sit on them. And I just don't know if I can afford that. I was told it can be 100'S of dollars. I'm not joking. I'm the worst chicken parent in the world. I just got done telling my 3 year old and 2 year old what was gonna happen. I cant lie to them. We have raised these girls since babies and 2 of them come in our house as they please...lol. We will be leaving tonight so the ex can do what needs to be done. I'm a bad mom and chicken mom. I should have never got new birds. Then I wouldn't be putting down our babies and my girls and I wouldn't have to go threw this. I'm so sick.

I'm learning along with everyone else, and that's why I suggested at the very least to cull the sick ones, or the ones she got that are new. The sick ones you know probably have it and would be carriers if treated. Or, I'd have a sick one tested. I'd definitely get the sick ones way far away from any that are not showing any symptoms of anything. It's a hard thing to have to decide to euthanize your entire flock. What I'd do is quarantine, test and then euthanize accordingly, I guess. So sorry you're dealing with this.

I do thank EVERYONE who has gave such kind words and that have taken time to post things for me. I'm sorry if at all I sounded mean. It is just 3 girls in this house and its a crying fest right now. We are all so upset. I think we might try that. I'm just so upset right now.

This is what I would do, also. The information that I quoted came right from the source that Dawg sited. I would euthanize the sick and watch the others. Most incubation periods for bacteria are 10 - 14 days. I just couldn't kill them all until I knew for certain.

Goober1201 we all make mistakes. Unfortunately, yours came with a huge lesson attached. I'm sorry for what you and your girls are going through. Now you have to do what is best for you, your family and your future flock. Good luck
