A friend is going to get chicks.... and he asked....

So a friend of ours is going to get some chicks because his wife wants laying hens.

He asked me "So, you buy them in the spring, and then butcher them in the fall right?"

Me "Not if you want eggs!" lol. He was shocked to learn they live 5-10 years if well cared for and that there were different types of birds for different needs. Not all birds are created equal.

I told him to go the BackYard Chickens... I hope he does!

Hee hee! Great advice. We all had to start somewhere and I was clueless when I started planning for birds. Now, I educate interested people about them all day long. "You mean, they don't need a rooster to lay eggs?" "Why won't the eggs hatch?" - me - because I don't have a rooster. "But...Oh, I see!"

You get the idea. Glad we have another convert to chickens!
