A friend just asked if I want his flock of laying hens

Thats what my DH is saying! He doesnt have as big a heart as I do! Lol! His biggest thing is why do they want new chicks in the spring if they wont keep them over the winter? My thing is...wow I can get point of lay hens every year! I can keep em and sell their eggs or just sell em!

But they have invested all the time of raising them!

How far apart is your new and old coop? If you can keep the newbees and your roo in a segregated run away from your others - maybe it would work out. Always care for them last and change clothes, shoes, etc. scrub up when you go to work with your flock.

The new coop is down at the back of our property and the old one os right outside the back door so I will be keeping all my original hens away from this new flock. The rooster is in the old coop and I really dont have anywhere else to put him so I will just be putting the new flock in the old coop with the Rooster! Keep your fingers crossed for a great out come!

drumstick diva...my hubby said He can tend our girls and I will tend the newbies! Lol! I wouldnt be able to stay away from our old flock! I had to quarantine a couple of gals I rescued last year so I am all caught up on that info! But its great to save these gals!

Sounds like a good plan. Besides the initial quarantine, it will expose one bird to any disease they might be carrying. So the roo becomes a test bird.

Good luck!

Thanks they seem to have adjusted well! I know they are loving the better diet they are getting here and continuous fresh water! I already got two beautiful brown eggs today!
