Newbie here. We have had chickens for a year and are having our first eggs hatching very soon! We started hearing (one? several?) peeps this afternoon from our silky's clutch of five. My question is, if there is a decent chance one or more hatch tonight while we are asleep, should I leave a heat lamp on just in case or assume mama will take care of them throughout the night and they should be fine? Thanks for your help!

I have never hatched with a broody. I have read that the hen, especially silke hens are great mothers so they should be taken care of. Although if it were me just in case I would leave the heat lamp on.
I am currently in the middle of a hatch, day 23, 23 eggs, 13 hatched so far and from what I can tell I might have 3 that won't hatch. I still have 7 that are either chirppibg or I can hear pecking, so just trying to be patient but that is very hard to do!!!!

Good luck with yours! We have what I believe is our first broody hen. I think I will have to move her as she is with 72 hens and 4 roosters. These are all very close to being a year old. We have twenty 7 week olds, only one rooster out of the 20 but I'm at a loss on how, when and where to move her to??? Do u think she would be OK with a nest in the same pen as 6 seven week old chicks?
