What breed is the chick in picture #7 standing next to the rooster?

Great pictures. Mine love their watermelon too, except they usually don't get much of the good stuff, but are left to pick at the rhines instead.

thanks all.

the mottled chick is a mixed breed out of mixed parents in the same picture. the rooster and the hen are basically the same mixture since they are full brother and sister. i think they have leghorn in them and possibly ancona as well as a crested breed way back in the woodpile. others have mentioned rhode island red and game as possibilities. they are smaller than the standard barred rocks and australorps pictured.

i get a lot of mottled chicks tho and soem of the mottled offspring look more like mottled leghorns whereas others look more like ancona.

who knows. i would inbreed them back down just to find out, LOL, but i'm skaret i might get silkies.
